Workplace Support: Danna's Kickstart to Saving Money

Danna is an Assistant Manager at Chick-fil-A Jackson Heights, where her journey began during the pandemic in 2021 as a team member. Little did she know that this role would become a significant turning point, not only in her career but also in her personal growth. Chick-fil-A in Jackson Heights has supported her financially and helped her develop valuable interpersonal skills. Her story is one that will resonate deeply with those who have experienced the challenges of living paycheck to paycheck. Sometimes, all it takes is a small nudge to start building healthier financial habits. The key takeaway from Danna’s experience is that even modest savings can grow into something substantial over time, making a real difference in people’s lives.

[QUBER] Hi Danna! How did you find QUBER? How long have you been using it to save money?

[Danna] I found out about QUBER through my operator at my store (CFA). He was the one who informed us about the savings plan and encouraged every employee to participate. I wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t for his great positive influence. I have been using QUBER since September of 2023 and it’s been such a blessing. It’s been teaching the importance of separating a certain percentage of my salary to be able to save up some money that was hard for me to do.

Before QUBER, how did you manage your money?

Before QUBER I didn’t really have a savings plan. I would do a mental note on what not to spend but I would end up spending it anyways. QUBER has been very helpful definitely.

Has anything changed with how you manage your money now that you are using QUBER?

Some things have changed like for example: my old bad habits. I would never separate a small amount of money, I would always spend all my check.

What have you saved for using QUBER? How does QUBER help you reach your goals?

I am about to reach my goal on September of 2024 with an amount of $800+. QUBER helps me by collecting $15 of my check every week in a separate way so I know I won’t touch it.

How do you manage your day-to-day finances now?

Nowadays I definitely believe I have more discipline when it comes to spending. I stick to spending only less than %50 of my budget.

If you could go back, what money advice would you give your younger self?

I would tell myself to be more disciplined when it comes to spending and not spend my money on things I don’t actually need.

What was your aha moment with saving money?

The moment I found myself living check after check, I told myself I needed to lock in and start saving money, that’s when I realized I needed to make a plan for myself and I chose QUBER.

What will you save for next year and how will you stay on track?

I will be saving for Christmas presents next year. I believe gifts are a big economical impact and might as well keep saving on QUBER for things like that.

Any advice for someone starting with QUBER or feeling unsure about saving money?

Don’t give up and keep putting in your $15 a week, it will pay off and you will feel great at the end once you have reached your financial goal.

Danna's journey with QUBER beautifully illustrates how employers can play a pivotal role in supporting their employees' financial wellness. Her story is a reminder that with a little encouragement and consistency, anyone can develop the discipline to save, no matter where they start. For those in the community who are hesitant to take that first step, let Danna's story inspire you: set a goal, start small, and watch your savings grow over time.

Danna, thank you for sharing your inspiring journey with us. We wish you a stress-free Christmas and continued success in reaching new savings goals!
